Last week, MTN Nigeria increased its data plan prices to 50% following the approval of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on a tariff increase for telecommunications companies. MTN also increased its call rate from N7.8 per minute to 13.8 per minute—a 76.92% hike—for pulse subscribers. The 2.5gb data that was N650 for 2 days on OPay has been removed and replaced with 5gb data that’s now N1,500 for 7 days which is more a fair deal like the 2.5gb data plan. All these hikes have push many people to limit their data usage during the day and suspend heavy data usage to night plans. I, also, is not excluded in the game. Before, I use to subscribe to the 2.5gb for 2 days. With it, I can stream movies on my MovieBox and watch YouTube videos and TikTok. But now, I have switched to SMEs data on data app which sell MTN data for N260 per 1gb and N540 per 2gb.
